On 22 October, President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced that the first phase of the international Gelon ski resort is set to open in Shakhrisabz District in 2027. The project is being implemented with the participation of Russian investors, including those from Tatarstan. Its preliminary cost is $300 million.

Within a month, responsible officials must prepare a general plan for the tourism development of six villages, including Gelon. Starting from 1 March 2027, the implementation of tourism projects in these settlements, with a total cost of $50 million, is planned to begin.

According to the project presentation given in June 2026, the resort plans to construct approximately 100 km of ski slopes and 23 km of cableways. Upon full completion, the complex is expected to accommodate up to 13,000 tourists simultaneously.
