On Saturday, October 24, the doors will remain closed to the public at the Louvre, the Orsay and Picasso museums, the Grand Palais, and the Orangery. The decision was prompted by planned demonstrations in Paris, as authorities fear they may escalate into unrest, BFM TV reports.
Protests on October 17, held in Paris and other French cities due to rising living costs and in support of students, were accompanied by chaos and looting. Over the upcoming weekend, authorities intend to strengthen police presence; the Paris City Hall has canceled mass events in the city center.
