500 MW Wind Power Plant Under Construction in Samarkand Region with $500 Million Investment
In the Bulungur district of the Samarkand region, the Chinese company Universal Energy is constructing a 500 MW wind power plant.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Energy Sherzod Khodjaev visited the construction site and reviewed the progress of the work and plans for commissioning the facility. The project’s cost is $500 million.
After its launch, the plant will be able to generate approximately 1.75 billion kWh of electricity annually. This volume is sufficient to meet the annual consumption needs of around 730,000 households.
It is expected that the operation of the wind power plant will save about 467 million cubic meters of natural gas annually and reduce harmful emissions into the atmosphere by over 1 million tons.
The first phase of the project is planned to be completed by the end of 2026, and the plant is expected to reach full capacity in 2027, the Ministry of Energy reports.
