The platform's maximum displacement will be approximately 74,000 tons, and it will be able to accommodate 238 people and six laboratories.
It is planned for use in the open ocean, where the semi-submersible dual-hull design is intended to help keep the structure in place during storms and heavy waves. The project is being developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and is included in China's program of major scientific infrastructure projects.
