A red alert was declared in the southern Brazilian state of Santa Catarina due to severe storms, heavy rainfall, and gusty winds. The warning was issued by the country's National Institute of Meteorology (INMET).

The natural disaster affected several cities. The wind felled trees, tore off roofs, and streets were flooded. In certain areas, rescuers carried out large-scale operations to evacuate people from buildings at risk of collapse.

The most serious damage from the tornado was inflicted on the airport in the city of Chapecó. The building housing the departure lounge was destroyed, and aircraft on the ground were damaged. The air hub was closed indefinitely.

Due to the adverse weather, authorities suspended the operation of schools and government institutions, and residents were urged to evacuate to safe locations. Simultaneously, people were advised not to travel on highways, as high danger persists.
