US Resident Wins Nearly $850 Million Powerball Jackpot
A player from New Jersey matched all six Powerball numbers and earned the choice between receiving $847 million in installments or $363.1 million as a lump sum.

The Powerball lottery winner matched all six numbers and secured a jackpot of $847 million. The winning ticket was purchased by a resident of the US state of New Jersey.
The ticket holder can receive the jackpot over many years or opt for a one-time cash payout of $363.1 million.
24% in federal taxes will be withheld from the winnings. The winner will also need to pay an additional 8% to the New Jersey state budget, as this rate applies to winnings exceeding $500,000.
The name of the ticket owner has not yet been disclosed. State law allows the winner to remain anonymous.
This jackpot is the ninth-largest in Powerball history. It had gone unclaimed for two months prior to this win. The last major prize was won on August 12 by a player from Illinois—at that time, the amount reached $1.04 billion, and the winner chose a one-time payout of $450.5 million.
